Overview
As part of Jio Financial Services’ collaboration with BlackRock, we set out to design a next-generation investments app tailored to Indian users entering the world of mutual funds and digital wealth management—many for the first time. This platform needed to balance regulatory clarity, intuitive onboarding, and user confidence, while standing out in an increasingly crowded fintech space.
What I did
Research & Foundations - We began with user interviews and contextual inquiry across metros and tier-2 cities to understand financial behaviors, digital comfort, and hesitations around investing. We synthesized these into personas and journey maps centered around trust, guidance, and task clarity.
Stakeholder Workshops - I facilitated joint discovery workshops with BlackRock and Jio teams, aligning on feature priorities, regional sensitivities, and regulatory constraints. These sessions also helped define tone, brand direction, and onboarding principles.
Early Prototyping & Testing - We created low-to-high fidelity prototypes to test onboarding clarity, comprehension of financial terms, and drop-off points. I led A/B tests and preference studies, collecting feedback from users on design tone, flow pacing, and visual clarity.
UX Architecture & Design Systems - I helped shape the information hierarchy for the app, including onboarding, dashboard, and KYC integration. The design work laid the foundation for a shared component system in Figma, built in collaboration with engineering.

Design Goals
Translate complex enterprise workflows into clear, user-friendly interfaces
Support multiple user roles with distinct permissions and data needs
Ensure compliance and traceability across procurement and asset operations
Build a consistent and scalable design framework for enterprise-wide adoption

Key Challenges
Designing for Trust in a New Financial Ecosystem
The biggest challenge was creating an experience that felt both trustworthy and accessible, especially for first-time investors in India.
Required deep immersion into financial flows, regulations, and user behaviors, while simplifying jargon-heavy systems.
Balancing compliance, risk communication, and cognitive load was essential to reduce drop-offs and build user confidence.
Aligning product goals between two large-scale organizations with different operational cultures
Designing an onboarding flow that simplifies jargon-heavy concepts without losing accuracy
Creating a scalable framework for future features (like advisory tools and portfolio management)
Maintaining clarity, hierarchy, and responsiveness across mobile-first designs
Outcome & Learnings
The initial design system and UX framework were approved by both Jio Financial and BlackRock teams, setting the tone for future iterations. The onboarding flow reduced drop-off in early tests and positioned the app as a transparent, guided entry point for new investors.
Designing for Finance, especially in B2C, looks simple from the outside, but the process involves much more complications and compliances.
The challenge is always to accomplish a lot while feeling like done very little.
